Final Destination - 2000

by Jonathan Little - 2006-08-06

James Wong is not exactly the most experienced director in Hollywood, in fact he is best known for his work on television. This is his first feature film and it is a strong offering. I had heard good things about it but had never gotten around to seeing it myself. This was my chance and I found it a good and enjoyable film. There were some points where the film was a bit unbelievable but this is a low budget horror film which is very popular. The acting is as expected from horror a little sub-par.
It is a brilliantly shot film, with everything being easy to follow and a little fun. The film builds tension when danger is around however there was never a point where you actually felt for the characters and there deaths. It was just trying to work out exactly how the next person was going to cop it. I must say I found Seann William Scotts death enjoyable.
There is very little wrong with this film, the story makes some sort of sense and it actually has a kind of plot. These are the things I criticize horror films for, the storyline of the film is often just completely daft. I must admit to it being my least favourite genre though films like this make me doubt that a little. I have one being criticism of the film though and that is why did they add in that last scene. The scene where the survivors go to Paris and it just so daft, it is like right lets make people laugh and talk about this scene when they've left the cinema. It just degrades what otherwise is a good film and it lowered my rating a little bit. Watch if you dare!
