Chronicles Of Narnia: Lion The - 2005
by Jonathan Little - 2005-12-15
I went into the cinema to watch this film with very low expectations, expecting it to be a cheesy, childish remake of The Lord of the Rings, and I think Cathy may have left with that opinion and would rate it about 10. However, I enjoyed the film for all its cheesy moments, and the points of genuine story were very good. Whenever you use child actors you are going to find yourself annoyed by their performances! However, it tries its best and I think they did draw good performances out of the younguns. I did enjoy the film, but that doesn't mean I would ever want to watch it again, for it is a film trying to be epic and falling flat on it's face; a very one-off experience! I remember thinking while sitting there that the film was 'ubercheesy'. Sure it has a religious message, yippee, who cares, it's a film, and films are meant to be better than this. Battle scenes with no blood in them at all? Oh please! Narnia is a dream world, and I left dreaming about how this film could have been so much better. It beat my expectations, but that doesn't make it great! The King Kong trailer on the big screen was the best part of sitting in the cinema, and I get to review it later; woo!!
